I am a natural light, custom lifestyle and portrait photographer, specializing in newborns, children, families, maternity, seniors, engagements, and weddings. We serve the Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Durham, Chapel Hill, RTP, Greensboro, North Carolina area. I love adding fashion and style to my images by using clothing, accessories, props, and location. Please let me know when booking if there is any special places that you have in mind. If needed, I have a number of exceptional locations that I love to shoot at that I can recommend as well! Some typical include local parks, any open fields, downtown, or even your own backyard. Sessions can last up to 2 hours and are generally scheduled early-morning or late afternoon, as these times provide the best lighting. One other thing to consider is your child/children’s internal clock when booking; make sure they are well rested and fed. Well rested children with happy tummies make the best models!
The best time to schedule a newborn session is during your pregnancy. Typically newborns are shot in the first seven days of life while they are still curly, sleepy, and bendy. Newborns take anywhere from 2-4 hours to photograph, sometimes less if they are good sleepers. Props, hats, headbands, blankets, and other accessories are provided for. If you have any others items you’d like to use such as baskets, heirlooms, quilts, please feel free to bring those too.
Clothing is such an important part in creating beautiful timeless portraits. I love layers, textures, bright color, ruffles, fur, or patterns. Hats, headbands, flower clips, tutus, pettiskirts, patterned leggings, mismatch designs, colorful rain boots, cowboy boots, scarves, ties & bow ties, and costumes are always fun too. Be as creative and fun as you want to be. I always encourage clients to bring as many different outfits as possible so we can switch it up….the more the better. Who doesn’t love to play dress up?!?! If your child has a favorite toy, stuffed animal, doll, blanket, book, or maybe a family heirloom, please bring it. I would also suggest bringing a snack and drink in case they need a little break to keep them going.
Maternity sessions are best between months 7 and 8. This is usually when women feel their best and are showing just enough to still wear “cute” maternity clothes. Some suggestions for clothing are tight fitted tank tops, or shirts in a solid color that can be unbuttoned to feature the belly. Scarves, sashes, blankets, or wraps are always great to cover up private areas. Long flowing dresses create a classy, yet simple look. Daddies are always encouraged to join the session and should wear simple clothing such as solid color tee’s.
Families should wear one or two complimentary colors and everyone coordinate. I would recommend avoiding solid black or solid white. Think color, color, color!
